Dive Shop Online

Dive Shop Online is the eCommerce store operated by a local diving centre, Teign Diving Centre, based in Teignmouth, South Devon. They were after a complete overhaul of their eCommerce solution, with a clean, modern design and a technical solution that would allow DSO to grow their catalogue.

Dive Shop Online is the eCommerce store operated by a local diving centre Teign Diving Centre, based in Teignmouth, South Devon. As experienced leisure and commercial divers, they have been running the diving centre since 1991, providing outstanding training and diving services - We know how great they are as we've dived with them!

Based on their ethics of providing high quality, experience and expertise, they launched Dive Shop Online, providing the best equipment and accessories for divers of all abilities.

The Problem

Their existing eCommerce solution utilising Actinic eCommerce had grown to a point that a new storefront would be needed to further grow the business. A relatively simple solution without connection to a back-office system but with an overruling requirement was for the site to be user friendly, with a clean, modern design and a technical solution that would allow DSO to grow their catalogue, invest into their own eCommerce solution that could evolve as their online business grew.

Magento

It was decided at the time that the best option to be Magento 2, as this was recently acquired by Adobe and the future of the platform looked to be secure. This platform had to accommodate a large catalogue, be robust and would allow DSO to scale as their online sales and presence grew.

A new, fresh and modern look was imperative, with certain sections, such as banners, being easily updatable by the client. Another important aspect to be considered was integrations, such as feeds and payment providers. Including third-party integrations and extensions can really help with boosting the functionality of a website, simplifying things like payment and shipping methods, and increasing the footprint of the online business by using tools such as Google and Amazon shopping feeds.

The Solution

Our design team started by creating design mock-ups for the entire site, with layouts for all common devices (desktop, tablet and mobile). The design process is iterative, and we worked with the client until they were happy with the design.

Working from the agreed designs, our development team created a bespoke theme, along with custom development to a selection of core and additional plugins.

Magento's own SEO tools are limited, so the use of several Amasty plugins to enhance the SEO capabilities of the site was vital.

When the website was in a usable state, Quality Assurance (QA) testing began, and any feedback or amends were fed back to the development team. This process of development and testing continued until we were happy to hand over access of the site to the client, for them to start uploading their catalogue.

As this was a brand-new platform with unfamiliar tools for the client, training was required and a couple of sessions were arranged to make sure they were comfortable and familiar with using the website, this included using StoreManager and Magento to upload and edit products and to manage orders.

Magento catalogue and inventory management are diverse and for larger sized deployments we recommend Unleashed as this comprehensive warehouse management application can perform the complete stock, fulfilment and Chanel integration required by eCommerce sites. For the smaller sites that only need to manage their catalogue and stock, we recommend StoreManager by eMagicOne - We have found this to be a tried and tested tool which takes out a lot of the pain when managing a large catalogue of products, and it was an ideal fit for DSO’s requirements.

The Result

Dive Shop Online now have a modern maintainable eCommerce solution that they own and control the direction. Being SEO friendly that can cope with their relatively large catalogue of products. They are now ready to market the site and to grow their online presence. And as and when new features are required, these can easily be added by our development team or through third-party plugin integrations.
